Production process
1. Log selection: The cornerstone of premium plywood is the careful selection of high-quality logs. We utilize a variety of wood types such as poplar, birch, pine, and eucalyptus. Key considerations during selection include texture, grain, hardness, and moisture content, all ensuring the materials meet stringent production standards. For instance, poplar is prized for its lightweight, soft texture, and excellent processability, making it ideal for standard plywood. On the other hand, birch, known for its hardness and exquisite grain, is perfect for crafting luxurious, high-end plywood.
2. Veneer preparation: Once the logs are selected, they are meticulously cut into desired lengths and expertly sliced into veneers using a rotary cutter. During this process, precise control of parameters such as rotary speed and tool angle is essential to achieve uniform veneer thickness and a smooth finish. For specific plywood needs, we also employ planing techniques to convert wood blocks into delicate chips, ensuring versatility in production.
3. Veneer drying: Freshly rotary-cut veneers are often high in moisture and thus require drying. We employ two methods: natural drying, which is cost-effective yet weather-dependent, and artificial drying, which includes steam and hot air drying. The latter quickly reduces moisture content to an optimal 8-12%, significantly boosting production efficiency while preserving veneer quality.
4. Gluing and assembly: Post-drying, veneers proceed to the gluing stage, where eco-friendly adhesives are uniformly applied. The adhesive's quality is pivotal for plywood's bonding strength and environmental safety. Following adhesion, panels are assembled with overlapping layers where fibers are oriented perpendicularly, ensuring structural stability and longevity.
5. Hot pressing Bonding: Once assembled, slabs undergo hot pressing at temperatures between 100ºC and 150ºC and pressures of 3-10MPa. The duration varies with sheet thickness and adhesive traits, generally spanning minutes to tens of minutes. This process solidifies the adhesive, fusing veneer layers into a cohesive, robust plywood structure.
6. Post-processing: After hot pressing, the plywood undergoes finishing touches like edge trimming and sanding. Trimming eliminates peripheral irregularities, ensuring precision in dimensions. Sanding refines the board's surface, preparing it for subsequent decorative processes such as veneering and painting, thus enhancing its aesthetic appeal and functional readiness.
