Production process
1. Log selection: At the heart of crafting superior-quality plywood lies the selection of premium logs. Commonly embraced wood types encompass poplar, birch, pine, and eucalyptus. The meticulous selection process evaluates several attributes such as wood texture, grain, hardness, and moisture content to ensure they surpass production criteria. Poplar, known for its light and soft texture, is favored for its remarkable processing capabilities, making it an ideal choice for standard plywood. Birch, with its robust characteristics and exquisite grain, is perfect for high-end plywood production.
2. Veneer preparation: The art of veneer preparation begins with cutting chosen logs into suitable lengths and then seamlessly slicing them into veneers using a rotary cutter. This step demands precision control of parameters like rotary cutting speed and tool angle to guarantee the veneer boasts uniform thickness and a polished surface. For specialized plywood requirements, a planing method slices wood blocks into delicate wood chips.
3. Veneer drying: Freshly rotary-cut veneers carry high moisture content, necessitating a drying phase. Two methods prevail: natural drying and artificial drying. While natural drying is cost-effective, it's subject to weather variations and involves extended cycles. Conversely, artificial drying, utilizing steam or hot air, swiftly curtails moisture content to a desirable 8% to 12%, significantly boosting production efficiency.
4. Gluing and assembly: Post-drying, veneers progress to the gluing domain, receiving an even coat of eco-friendly adhesive. This adhesive's caliber is pivotal to the plywood's bonding strength and environmental credentials. Subsequent panel assembly follows a rule: adjacent fiber directions must be perpendicular, fortifying the board's structural stability.
5. Hot pressing Bonding: Assembled slabs proceed to a hot press where they endure bonding at specified temperatures (usually 100ºC - 150ºC) and pressures (3-10MPa). The duration, dictated by sheet thickness and adhesive features, ranges from minutes to tens of minutes. This process solidifies the adhesive, uniting each veneer layer securely.
6. Post-processing: Following hot-pressing, plywood undergoes essential post-processing like edge trimming and sanding. Edge trimming excises uneven edges, ensuring precision in dimension. Sanding smooths and flattens the board surface, priming it for decorative procedures such as veneering and painting.
