Each log is evaluated for its texture, grain, hardness, moisture content, and other crucial indicators to assure they surpass production standards. Poplar, recognized for its lightweight and soft nature, excels in processing and is ideal for ordinary plywood. Meanwhile, birch, with its robust texture and captivating grain, is the quintessential choice for premium plywood creation.
2. Veneer preparation: Transforming selected logs into veneers is a craft honed through expert precision. Logs are sectioned into optimal lengths and then meticulously sliced via rotary cutters. Precision control of the rotary cutting parameters, such as speed and tool angles, ensures that each veneer boasts consistency in thickness and a flawless surface. For plywood with distinct specifications, planing methods are employed to slice wood blocks into delicate wood sheets.
3. Veneer drying: Initially, rotary-cut veneers present high moisture levels, necessitating effective drying. We employ two distinctive drying techniques: cost-effective natural drying, though weather-dependent with extended cycles, and artificial methods like steam or hot air drying. The latter swiftly regulates moisture levels to an optimal 8%-12% range, amplifying production efficiency.
4. Gluing and assembly: Post-drying, veneers embark on the gluing phase where eco-friendly adhesives are meticulously applied, pivotal for plywood's bonding prowess and environmental integrity. The assembly adheres to precise rules ensuring perpendicular fiber orientation between layers, fostering unparalleled board stability.
5. Hot pressing Bonding: Post-assembly, slabs undergo hot pressing bonding within a controlled temperature range (100ºC - 150ºC) and pressure (3-10MPa). The hot pressing duration, tailored by sheet thickness and adhesive characteristics, varies from minutes to tens of minutes. This phase secures the adhesive, uniting each veneer layer robustly.
6. Post-processing: Subsequent to hot-pressing, plywood is refined through post-processing tasks like edge trimming and sanding. Edge trimming eliminates irregularities, assuring precise dimensions, while sanding achieves a smooth, even surface, ready for decorative enhancements such as veneering and painting.
